The most interesting historical monuments can be found in
the Kuttichira district. This is the old town of Kozhikode
and here you will find large mansions and the Machantipalli
and Misqalpalli Mosques. Both are remarkable for their
adherence to local architecture, with delicate woodcarving
and stepped roofs.
The Pazhassiraja Museum at
East Hill has antique bronzes, old coins, ancient earthenware
and models of old temples.

Kadalundi Bird Sanctuary,
25 km from Kozhikode is a haven for migratory birds like
terns, herons and sandpipers, best visited between November
and March. |
| The area around Thusharagiri
Waterfalls, 50 km from Kozhikode has rubber, pepper,
ginger and other spice plantations. You can go trekking
here and the dense, emerald forests are filled with exotic
birds and wildlife. |

Peruvannamuzhi
Dam, 60 km from Kozhikode , is a beautiful picnic
spot. Boat rides are available and a bird sanctuary and
a crocodile farm here are a must see. |

district, only a three-hour drive from Beypore, Pookottu
Thadakam is a scenic lake, breathtaking in its
beauty, its tranquility sought after by writers and artists. |

Sweetmeat
Street or SM Street is a lively commercial hub,
with roadside shops selling everything from food to footwear.
Here you will find Kasavukada, which specializes
in the traditional white and gold ethnic dress of Kerala.
Souvenirs and artefacts can be bought at the government-run
Kairali Emporium. Khadi Bhavan
also stocks fabulous fabrics like raw silk and hand-spun
cotton.
